A Children Home Placement means that volunteers are placed directly within the HORAC Nepal Children’s Home, where they live, interact, and engage closely with children in their daily environment. This placement allows volunteers to experience the heart of HORAC’s work while contributing meaningfully to the children’s care, learning, and development.

Volunteering at HORAC Nepal is not just about giving time it is about becoming part of a family and making a positive, lasting difference in the lives of vulnerable children.

Who Can Volunteer

We welcome volunteers who are passionate about working with children, open to learning, and respectful of local culture. Volunteers from diverse backgrounds students, professionals, educators, and travelers are encouraged to apply.

• Minimum placement duration: 1 week

• Longer placements (several weeks or months) are highly encouraged, as they provide children with consistency and stability.

Volunteer Roles and Activities

Volunteers support the daily life of the Children’s Home and may be involved in:

• Helping children with homework and academic activities

• Playing games, sports, and organizing creative activities such as art, music, or storytelling

• Teaching new games and engaging children in positive recreational time

• Spending quality time talking with children to understand their interests, dreams, and challenges

• Leading simple lessons, presentations, or cultural exchanges related to the volunteer’s home country or skills

• Accompanying children on short walks or educational visits to nearby places

• Assisting staff during structured routines and group activities

Supporting Responsibility and Life Skills

Children at HORAC are encouraged to take part in age-appropriate household responsibilities to build independence, discipline, and self-reliance. Volunteers may support and guide these activities, helping children learn teamwork, accountability, and respect through daily practice.

Living the HORAC Experience

We encourage volunteers to ask questions, engage in conversations, and build genuine relationships with the children. Volunteers who take time to understand Nepalese culture, local community life, and child-care practices often find their placement deeply rewarding.

The more you connect with the children and the HORAC community, the more your placement feels less like volunteering and more like being part of a family.

At HORAC Nepal, volunteering is a shared journey: children gain encouragement, exposure, and companionship, while volunteers gain meaningful experiences, cultural understanding, and lifelong memories.
